Thebody.com – Comprehensive site featuring more than 550 topic areas ranging from AIDS basics and prevention to just diagnosed and treatment. The site also has bulletin boards on AIDS related topics.

 

HIV Insite – This site is sponsored by the Center for HIV Information at the University of California in San Francisco.  The site houses a comprehensive textbook with extensive reference and related medical links organized by topic.  The front page of the site has links to the most current and newsworthy HIV/AIDS articles.

 

AEGIS - The largest HIV knowledgebase on the web. The site is sponsored by the Boehringer Ingelheim pharmaceutical company and provides current HIV/AIDS news (updated hourly), HIV/AIDS fact sheets, links to reference resources, access to virtual law library, etc.

 

CDCNPIN - NPIN is a national reference, referral and distribution service for information on HIV/AIDS, STDs, and TB, sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

 

National Library of Medicine Gateway - The NLM Gateway allows users to search in multiple retrieval systems at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM). The current Gateway searches MEDLINE/PubMed, OLDMEDLINE, LOCATORplus, MEDLINEplus, ClinicalTrials.gov, DIRLINE, AIDS Meetings, Health Services Research Meetings, Space Life Sciences Meetings, and HSRProj.

 

Family Health International Organization- fhi Formed in 1971, FHI is among the largest and most established nonprofit international public health organizations, managing research and field activities in more than 70 countries to meet the public health needs of some of the world's most vulnerable people. The site provides access to a wealth of HIV/AIDS prevention and education resources  in Spanish English and French.

 

Public Health Service: HIV/AIDS Treatment Information Service- Site is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is organized around five main subject categories about HIV/AIDS and treatment: health topics, guidelines, drugs, vaccines, clinical trials.  The site is incredibly comprehensive and provides basic information on HIV/AIDS to in depth medical presentation.

 

AIDS Meds- This is an excellent site to find information on AIDS/HIV medication on the web.  Pages provide comprehensive details on drug trials, interactions between medications and information on side effects.

Web Resources for Youth and Youth Educators

I Wanna Know Site is sponsored by the American Social Health Association and is set up to answer questions about teen sexual health and sexually transmitted diseases.  The site is organized well, the content is presented in very understandable terms and the information is comprehensive. A section for parents is included and a live e-mail forum is conducted through the site Mondays, Thurdays and Friday 5-7 pm (est).

 

Know HIV/AIDS- Site is sponsored by VIACOM and Henry J. Kaiser Foundation and provides access to information on everything from transmission and testing to condom negotiation and safe sex practices. Free informational booklets are available via the website.

 

Advocates for Youth- Advocates for Youth is dedicated to creating programs and advocating for policies that help young people make informed and responsible decisions about their reproductive and sexual health. The organization’s programming integrates STD, HIV/AIDS and teenage pregnancy prevention strategies. The site provides information, training tool, and strategic assistance to youth-serving organizations, policy makers and youth activists. GLSEN -The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network works to ensure safe and effective schools for all students. The site provides information resources, curriculum plans and  safe place charter  templates for students and educators.

Teenwire- This site is sponsored by Planned Parenthood and provides great information on sexual health and teen sexuality.  The site includes an ‘ask a nurse’ feature, teen e-mail forums diagrams, interactive trivia games, book reviews and movie clips.
